Acupuncture

Dr Bylina currently holds an  acupuncture clinic on Tuesdays from 2.00pm—3.00pm.

Certain conditions respond well to acupuncture, which is provided free of charge for our patients.  This can be discussed with your doctor.

Asthma Management

Our Practice Nurses have had training to prepare them to take the lead in normal asthma care.  They combine regular          mini-clinics with one off sessions.  Please ask at reception.

 

Blood Pressure

Blood Pressure checks may be carried out by the Practice Nurses if this has been agreed by your doctor.

Cervical Smears

We feel regular cervical smears are important for all ladies up to the age of 65 years (unless advised otherwise by your doctor).  A reminder will be sent when your smear is due.

Counselling

The practice provides a counselling service covering a wide range of issues.  Referral is strictly by the GP and there is a waiting list.

 

COPD Clinic

This clinic is run by Sister Haldenby for those patients suspected or diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

 

Diabetic Clinic

The clinic is run by Janice Cook, Nurse Practitioner, Practice Nurses,  Dietician and a Chiropodist.  They will assess, monitor, advise and  educate you in the management of your  diabetes.

Appointments are booked in writing by the Practice  and you will  normally be asked to  attend for  blood tests two weeks before your appointment.

District Nursing

 

Our District Nursing team care for anyone in their home who is unable to attend surgery or Ellen Royd Clinic.  

Their responsibilities include wound care, injections, blood tests, catheter management, continence management, gastrostomy care, pressure ulcer management and care of people with incurable or life threatening illnesses.                                  The District Nursing Sister can prescribe certain products for patients e.g. wound care products.  There is a specialist leg ulcer clinic held weekly at Lawson Road Health Centre Brighouse – referral is through your District Nurse, Practice Nurse or GP.  District Nurses can be contacted at Ellen Royd Clinic on         01422 373647.  Outside normal office hours and at weekends, overnight and on bank holidays a District Nurse can be contacted on 01484 720783.

 

Dressings

Basic dressings, suture/clip removals are performed by appointment with the Practice Nurses.

Ear Syringing

Ear syringing is performed by the Practice Nurses for patients who have been referred by a GP or who have had ear syringing performed previously.

Epilepsy Clinic

This clinic is run by Janice Cook, Nurse Practitioner. She will assess, monitor, advise and educate you in the management of your epilepsy.

Flu Vaccinations

Flu vaccinations are usually available from early October for people who are eligible (see in-house leaflet). 

Heart Matters Clinic

This clinic is run by Janice Cook to improve the health of       patients  diagnosed with heart problems and those patients who are at risk of developing heart problems.

Health Checks

Our Practice Nurses are happy to discuss many aspects of prevention of illness including advice on diet, exercise, stopping smoking and holiday vaccinations.

Health Visiting

The Health Visitors are responsible for most of the development assessments of the children  in our practice.  They are available to give advice on health matters relating to pre-school children and to the family as a whole.

The Health Visitors may be contacted on 01422 311101 where an answer machine is available 24 hours a day.

Hypertension Clinic

This clinic is run by our Practice Nurses.  They will assess, monitor, advise and educate you in the management of your hypertension.

Maternity Care

Antenatal clinics run by our midwives are held each Monday afternoon at Elland Childrens Centre.  All the Doctors are approved to give obstetric care.  A range of care is available including hospital shared care and midwife led care. 

A midwife is available to discuss any problems. Six weeks after your baby is born we would like to see you for a postnatal check.

 

Non-NHS Services

 

Medical examinations for special purposes, eg elderly drivers, HGV, taxi, pre-employment, fitness to undertake sports, fitness to travel etc are not part of our NHS obligations. Please tell our receptionist if you are making an appointment for this purpose.  A fee is payable.  There is also a charge for photocopies of results.

Doctors are frequently asked to sign several types of forms which may have to wait until the doctor has time to deal with them because priority is given to other NHS work.  Please allow at least 5 working days.  A fee will need to be paid for completion of most forms.  Please see details in reception/waiting room.

 

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is provided at Lawson Road Clinic Brighouse and The Calderdale Royal Hospital. Your GP will refer you for treatment if  he/she feels it is appropriate.

Social Services

If you have any problems and would like to see a Social Worker you can attend the Council Offices, Southgate, Elland, where a Customer Services Advisor will assist you.

The office is open  9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9 am to 4.50 pm on Fridays.

Spots & Rashes

We have a special waiting area if you think you or your child has an infectious rash so please let the receptionist know when you book in.

Travel Immunisations & Advice

If you are planning to travel abroad please see one of our Practice Nurses 6-8 weeks before travel if possible, to check your vaccination needs.

We can provide most vaccinations required, with the exception of Yellow Fever. 

We can advise on and prescribe some anti malaria tablets and supply  personalised travel health itineraries. 

 

Well Man/ Well Woman

Health checks, cervical cytology, blood pressure, weight, diet and lifestyle checks are carried out by our Practice Nurses who are also happy to discuss prevention of illness with you.
